Outlander: My Blood Theme Song Revealed
When you think of Outlander, the theme song, “Skye Boat Song,” often comes to mind. This classic Scottish folk tune has been beautifully arranged by composer Bear McCreary, creating a version that’s both memorable and oddly romantic. Singer Raya Yarbrough performed it so well that the network invited her to sing at San Diego Comic-Con recently.
It’s clear that for Outlander: My Blood, the producers wanted to nail the theme song for the opening credits of the show. They decided to move away from the familiar “Skye Boat Song” and instead commissioned an original theme with a new vocalist.
According to a report, Outlander: My Blood showrunner Matthew B. Roberts mentioned that they were looking for a song that would stick in your head, something you’d find yourself humming in the car or even singing in the shower.
Bear McCreary has worked through various iterations of this new theme song, debating the lyrics and whether they should be in English or Scottish Gaelic. In the end, the finished product will feature Julie Fauris singing in both languages.
The English lyrics align well with key visual moments in the show, telling the stories of characters like Brian Fraser and Ellen Mackenzie, as well as Henry Beaushan and Julia Moriston. The Scottish Gaelic lines might be challenging for some to understand, but translations indicate themes of love, dreams, and desires.
