Grand jury investigation initiated regarding Letitia James in New York

Justice Department Investigates New York AG Letitia James Amid Ongoing Trump Conflict

The Justice Department has launched a significant investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James, further intensifying former President Donald Trump’s ongoing clash with top prosecutorial figures in New York.

Sources familiar with the investigation, which is being conducted out of Albany, indicate that the focus is on potential deprivation of rights claims. Recently, James’ office received a subpoena demanding documentation related to a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump.

Since her election in 2018, James, a Democrat, has been a recurring target for Trump. She successfully filed a civil fraud charge against him in 2022, becoming a pivotal figure in challenging several actions taken by his administration.

James’ office has yet to respond to inquiries regarding this current investigation.

James Hires Legal Support Amid Controversies

Shortly after taking office, James initiated an investigation into Trump’s organization, leading to a ruling against him that included significant financial penalties. A judge found that Trump and his associates had been grossly inflating his assets, which allowed them to secure favorable loans and other financial advantages. James has emphasized that financial fraud is not a “crime without victims.” She highlighted that ordinary New Yorkers would face severe consequences for similar actions.

Recently, tensions between Trump and James have escalated. In April, the Federal Housing Finance Agency requested an investigation into alleged mortgage fraud connected to James, and the DOJ has also initiated inquiries into the matter.

James has denied any wrongdoing regarding the mortgage fraud claims. Meanwhile, Trump has publicly denounced her as a “corrupt politician,” suggesting that she should step down from her role as Attorney General.
