RFK Jr. HALTS all mRNA vaccine development

Changes in Vaccine Development Policy

There’s been a recent update from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which has sparked a sense of optimism among many within the Maha movement regarding the future of vaccines. However, there are still some reservations, as expressed by blazetv host Sarah Gonzalez.

He discussed a specific agency, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Agency (BARDA), which is focused on advancing scientific research aimed at creating vaccines, drugs, diagnostics, and other tools to counter emerging health threats.

Kennedy Jr. mentioned that over the last few weeks, BARDA has been reviewing 22 different mRNA vaccine development contracts and has started to cancel them.

The cancellations primarily target vaccines developed for flu and COVID-19, as the pandemic has demonstrated that “mRNA vaccines don’t perform effectively against viruses that affect the upper respiratory system.”

He elaborated on the limitations of mRNA vaccines, stating that they only encode a small segment of the viral protein, usually just a single antigen. A single mutation could render the vaccine ineffective, which perpetuates a dynamic known as antigenic shift—where the vaccine unintentionally encourages new mutations, thus prolonging the pandemic.

Ultimately, after consultation with top experts at the NIH and FDA, HHS concluded that the risks of using mRNA technology outweigh the potential benefits for respiratory viruses. This led to the decision to terminate the 22 contracts, which amounts to nearly $500 million.

Despite this announcement, Gonzalez shared her mixed feelings regarding the news. She expressed satisfaction with the decision to retract financial support for mRNA technology but felt annoyed by the way it was presented.

She humorously questioned which vaccines would still be pursued, adding that, although she doesn’t think immediately abandoning the technology is a viable solution, it’s crucial to generate interest without discouraging the public.

“It’s about doing this intentionally and properly. You can’t just reject the whole system outright,” Gonzalez remarked. “So, I’m actually pleased with his approach so far.”
