Authorities in Washington, D.C., have confiscated two stolen firearms and illegal drugs shortly after President Trump instructed federal law enforcement to increase their patrols in the city.
On Friday morning, the U.S. Parks Police office in Washington stated, “Throughout the night, our officials collaborated with federal partners to implement EO 14252 aimed at enhancing safety in the Columbia district.” They emphasized their success in removing these dangerous items from the community.
The Alcohol Bureau, part of the Washington Field Division of Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, mentioned, “We are working alongside various federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and others, to ensure that residents feel safer tonight.”
Trump’s directive to boost law enforcement presence began at midnight Thursday, citing ongoing concerns about violent crime in the area.
This announcement followed Trump’s remarks about potentially taking federal control of the capital after an incident involving a teenager attacking former government officers.
In recent weeks, Trump has been vocal in his criticism of both the city council and Mayor Muriel Bowser, particularly regarding how they manage issues like homelessness and crime. He has also pushed for legislation that would allow teens over 14 to be treated as adults in the legal system.
The rate of violent crime in D.C. has reportedly decreased by 35%, marking the lowest level in over 30 years since 2023.
If deemed necessary, the President can take control of the D.C. police station temporarily under the Home Rules Act.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller commented to News Nation, describing Washington as “more violent” than certain regions in Ethiopia and other perilous areas globally.
