Trump to Meet Putin in Alaska

President Trump announced on Friday that he will hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in Alaska. The aim is to discuss efforts to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In a statement, Trump said, “The anticipated meeting between me as President of the United States and me as President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, will take place on Friday, August 15th, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska.”

Prior to this meeting, Trump confirmed plans to engage with Russian officials and mentioned that the exchange of territories might be a topic during potential peace talks. Reports indicate that the Russian government has received ceasefire proposals that include Ukraine making some territorial concessions.

Trump remarked, “You see, the territory that has been fought over for three and a half years has resulted in many casualties on both sides—Russians and Ukrainians alike. It’s complex, yet at the same time, it’s rather straightforward.”

He mentioned that “they will exchange some territories to improve conditions for both sides,” although he noted further discussions would take place later.

While initially hinting that he would announce the meeting details soon, he later expressed reluctance, recalling a previous event where he hosted Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to sign a peace deal.

When asked about possibly hosting a similar event involving Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump expressed optimism, saying, “We’re going to settle it.” He also suggested that Zelensky should be prepared to sign a ceasefire agreement.

“President Zelensky needs to get everything in order. I think he’s working hard to finalize it,” Trump stated.

Trump is currently considering the possibility of meeting both Putin and Zelensky in the near future, having discussed this on a call with European allies earlier this week. White House Press Secretary Caroline Lewitt confirmed that Russia has shown interest in engaging with Trump for discussions.
