Pam Bondi Appoints Ed Martin as Special Attorney to Look Into Mortgage Fraud Claims Against Letitia James and Adam Schiff

Mortgage Fraud Investigation Launched

Attorney General Pam Bondy has appointed Ed Martin as a Special Attorney to probe mortgage fraud allegations involving Democrat New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Senator Adam Schiff, as per sources close to the situation.

The Federal Housing Agency (FHFA) referred James to the Department of Justice (DOJ) back in April, claiming she might have forged mortgage documents to secure better loan terms.

In a similar vein, FHFA Director Bill Prute also mentioned in a referral to the DOJ in May that there were allegedly forged documents associated with property transactions in Maryland, intended to ensure more favorable loan conditions.

A representative for Schiff noted that in 2023, he referred to both his California and Maryland properties as his primary residence “for loan purposes, to differentiate it from other properties.”

Schiff’s attorney, Preet Bharara, stated that the accusations against the Senator are “transparently false, old, and have been debunked.” He criticized Martin’s appointment, suggesting it was made with a partisan agenda against a political rival. Bharara labeled Martin’s past work, particularly during the January 6 events, as politically driven, citing a pattern of seeking to investigate perceived opponents of interest.

In a separate development, James received a subpoena in New York recently, which adds another layer to the unfolding situation.

Special Attorneys have legal authority in judicial proceedings, even over cases outside their residential jurisdiction. Previously, Trump had nominated Martin to lead the DOJ’s weaponization working group, though concerns over his partisanship led to his nomination being pulled.

As of now, James’ office has not responded to inquiries regarding these developments.
