Cleveland Browns Quarterback Impressive in Preseason Debut
The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Shedale Sanders, made waves during his first NFL preseason game on Friday night, throwing two touchdown passes.
His performance caught the eye of NBA superstar LeBron James, who shared his thoughts on social media. “That young (man) looks good,” James commented. “Continue to rise!!! Bow your head towards the grind and head towards the highest.”
Following that, James added another post, expressing his reluctance to hear any negativity about it being just preseason.
Celebrating the achievement, Sanders’ father, Deion Sanders, couldn’t contain his excitement. He posted on social media, cheering for his son after the touchdowns, expressing sentiments like, “Yes Rood! Yes @shedeursanders” after the first score, and exclaimed, “God is so good!” after the second.
Sanders had quite the journey to his current position, as he was the Browns’ first quarterback to start in the preseason after injuries sidelined both Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. This was somewhat surprising given that he had faced criticism and concerns regarding his character, which caused him to slip to the 144th pick in the NFL Draft. Many had considered him a strong candidate for an earlier pick, and the unexpected drop led to debates among football fans.
Last month, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam expressed his initial doubt about drafting Sanders. Reflecting on the draft day, he remarked, “If you told me on a Friday night that they would choose Shedale, I wouldn’t have believed it.”
Since joining, Sanders has attracted some controversy. He received speeding tickets for reportedly driving 91 mph in a 65 mph zone and later hitting 101 mph in a 60 mph zone. Notably, he didn’t attend court regarding these tickets.
While participating in a charity event, he acknowledged his missteps, stating, “I personally made some wrong choices and I can own them. It’s not a great choice… I’ve learned.” His comments came in light of criticism from Browns general manager Andrew Berry, who emphasized the importance of being cautious on the road.
Despite these setbacks, the rookie’s impressive debut has many eager to see where his career leads.
