Valerie Bertinelli reveals Betty White's top tips on being grateful

Valerie Bertinelli Reflects on Betty White’s Impact

Valerie Bertinelli recently reminisced about her time with the beloved Betty White during an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” In a segment shared this week, she discussed the best advice she’s ever received, attributing it to White.

“The greatest advice came from Betty White,” Bertinelli shared. “She truly exemplified gratitude. I thought I knew what it meant to be grateful, but she was just overflowing with it.”

Bertinelli added that White’s approach to life—in both good times and bad—taught her valuable lessons, particularly in navigating “the real challenges of the past five years.” Expressing her appreciation, she said, “I’m thankful for all of it, even the tough times.”

The actress mentioned that, while some experiences felt challenging, they ultimately taught her important lessons. “Sure, it wasn’t easy, and I sometimes wish I hadn’t gone through it,” she reflected. “But I believe those difficult moments help us learn and grow.” She emphasized, “I’m grateful for every moment, even the hardest ones.”

Bertinelli and White starred together on the popular series “Hot in Cleveland” from 2010 to 2015, where their bond flourished. In a previous talk show appearance, she described White as “magic” and expressed her feelings of luck at sharing the screen with her.

On social media, Bertinelli has opened up about her ongoing struggles, making her feelings known to her followers. For instance, she disclosed in May 2025 that she endured “the most emotionally unbearable eight months” of her life. “I don’t want to come off as self-pitying, because everyone faces challenges,” she said. Yet, she noted this experience has offered her insights into her own strength and resilience.

More recently, she addressed her emotional turmoil, admitting she was tempted to resort to unhealthy coping mechanisms during intense moments of distress. “I want to drink, I want to escape, but my rational side tells me that confronting these feelings is the better way to heal,” she acknowledged, revealing the difficulty in expressing her emotions.

Although she hasn’t detailed the particular issues she’s facing, it’s worth noting she ended a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Mike Goodnow, in November 2024.
