Pritzker is uncertain about a possible 2028 presidential bid: 'I can't dismiss any options'

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker Comments on Presidential Ambitions

On Sunday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker mentioned that he hasn’t considered a run for president in 2028.

In an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press,” he stated, “I’m focused on securing re-election as governor of Illinois, and my efforts are all about uplifting people in my state.”

He added, “I can’t rule anything out, but my main concern is the people of Illinois and what I can do here.”

Pritzker announced his campaign for a third term as governor on June 26th. He expressed his commitment to continue addressing the challenges faced by the state, emphasizing, “I am running for reelection to protect my progress. Serving as your governor is an honor.”

As a notable critic of the Trump administration, speculation around a potential presidential run for Pritzker in 2028 has increased. During the 2024 election cycle, he was also seen as a possible vice presidential candidate alongside former Vice President Harris, but Minnesota Governor Tim Walz secured the spot.

Recently, Pritzker drew attention for his stance on electoral changes in Texas. He criticized Trump, alleging that the former president is “trying to steal five seats from people.” He asserted his intention to block Republican efforts to gain five additional congressional seats in the midterm elections.

“They’re here in Illinois. We’ll do everything we can to protect them and ensure that they’re following the law,” Pritzker stated.
