Netanyahu Warns About Christian-Jewish Relations

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed concerns over efforts to undermine the relationships between Christians and Jews, particularly in the United States. In a recent event in Jerusalem, he spoke to Pastor Paula White, a spiritual adviser to former President Donald Trump, emphasizing the importance of collaboration based on shared values.

Netanyahu noted that Israel is often depicted as a threat to Christians. He highlighted the existence of a robust Christian community within Israel, contrasting it with other regions where Christians are persecuted. He mentioned Nazareth as a thriving example, unlike in Bethlehem, where the Christian population has dramatically decreased from 80% to under 20% following Israel’s withdrawal and Palestinian control, which has not provided the same protection to the community.

During his remarks, Netanyahu pointed out the rise of anti-Israel sentiment, which, he believes, is part of a broader agenda. He referred to Israel as the protector of Christianity in the Middle East, countering the narrative that portrays it as hostile to Christians.

Rev. John Haggie, a key figure in the Christian United for Israel organization, discussed different motivations behind criticisms of Israel. He argued that some attacks stem from a desire to foster anti-Semitism among those who feel marginalized in political debates.

Haggie stated that Christian Zionism is essential for American support of Israel and pointed out attempts to create discord between Christians and Jews. He cautioned that negative portrayals of Israel are being amplified through media outlets for the benefit of those opposing Israel.

Netanyahu further criticized media influencers who misrepresent Israel as an enemy of Christianity, reiterating the need to stand up for shared values and truth.

Recent accusations suggest that Israel’s military intentionally targeted churches in Gaza, amid claims that extremist settlers have attacked historic churches in the West Bank. However, Israeli authorities have denied these allegations, insisting that any incidents were unintentional.

Dr. Mike Evans, an evangelical leader, raised concerns about ongoing efforts to sway young minds against Israel on American campuses, emphasizing the need to educate on the biblical significance of Israel.

David Parsons of the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem noted the growing support for Israel among Christians, highlighting that this backing isn’t solely reliant on current political figures. He underscored the importance of nurturing this support among younger generations, as many hold different perspectives than their parents.

Parsons concluded that fostering firsthand experiences of Israel for young Christians could strengthen those connections and ensure continued solidarity. He expressed optimism about a new generation that appreciates Israel’s achievements and might take an interest in exploring the region further.
