Trump’s Plan to Tackle Crime and Homelessness in DC

President Trump announced on Sunday his commitment to address mounting crime and homelessness in Washington, DC. He emphasized the urgency, stating, “The homeless need to leave immediately. We will provide accommodation, though it won’t be close to the capital,” as he shared images of a tent camp to illustrate his point.

To combat rising crime rates, Trump plans to enhance the presence of federal law enforcement in the city. “Criminals, you don’t have to relocate; we’ll put you where you belong—in jail,” he asserted, indicating that a new initiative would be implemented swiftly.

Trump characterized Washington, DC as “one of the most dangerous cities in the world” and claimed his administration had made significant strides in curbing violent crimes. He mentioned last week that he was considering a federal takeover of the DC police and possibly deploying the National Guard to address the escalating violence.

Recent violent incidents in the city included attacks involving federal officials, heightening concerns over safety. Trump described the situation as “out of control,” pointing to “thugs” and “gang members” preying on “innocent citizens.” He stressed the need for measures to reclaim the capital, with further details expected at a press conference on Monday.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump, stating, “The President has directed an increase in federal law enforcement to protect innocent citizens. From now on, violent criminals will find no refuge in DC.” She reinforced the notion that Washington, while a “great city,” has suffered from violent crime for far too long.
