We are considering legal action against the New York Times for defamation regarding a false image of starving people in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel might take legal action against the *New York Times* for what he described as slander. This follows the publication of a photo on their homepage that allegedly misrepresented a hungry Palestinian child in Gaza.

Netanyahu examined three images, noting that, in each instance, the children depicted were suffering from various medical conditions, often genetic, while the accompanying adults and other children were healthy.

He emphasized that the idea of Israelis harming children reflects a long-standing historical prejudice against Jews, which has historically led to violence against the Jewish community.

Netanyahu stated:

The third image is the most well-known. This *New York Times* cover features Muhammad Zakariya Ayub and his mother. Muhammad suffers from a familiar genetic disorder called cerebral palsy, while his mother and siblings are healthy. I am currently considering a government lawsuit against the *New York Times* because this is unacceptable. The correction they issued seems to have been buried. All three of these images are fake. It’s a harmful falsehood aimed at Jewish people. We will not allow this to go unchallenged. This press conference aims to highlight the stark realities: Hamas deceives.

Netanyahu also defended Israel’s military actions in Gaza, stating that their objective is to eliminate Hamas completely and to free any remaining Israeli hostages, while the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continue to increase aid to Gaza.
