A US tourist’s girlfriend mourns the tragic loss of her fiancé, who was shot in Puerto Rico while attending a Bad Bunny concert. Angie Nicole Aguero, 25, expressed her sorrow in an emotional Instagram post, writing, “I am you, my angel, my angel,” alongside a picture of the couple after Kevin Marles’ sudden passing in La Perla on Sunday.
In another post featuring a smiling photo, she said, “My love, I love you. I miss you. Why did God, you took him out of me?” The couple had been together for six years, with plans for Marles to propose in the fall, as noted on a GoFundMe page set up to help bring his body back to New York City.
Just hours before the incident, Aguero and Marles shared joyful snapshots of palm trees, a resort pool, and drinks during their holiday. However, tragedy struck when Marles was shot twice while walking in a popular area of La Perla on the outskirts of Old San Juan.
Authorities believe he was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of an argument between two people nearby. He was shot in the abdomen and side and, despite being rushed to the hospital, he did not survive.
In the aftermath, local residents were also hospitalized following the incident. Marles had traveled to Puerto Rico with his girlfriend and friends to see the well-known rapper perform, which drew many tourists to the Caribbean island.
Friends and family described Marles as an inspiration, noting his kindness, adventurous spirit, and loyalty to his loved ones. The GoFundMe page stated that he was the heart of his family, and his unexpected death has left a significant void in their lives.
Detective Sgt. Arnardo Lewis mentioned to NBC 6 that details surrounding the case are limited, and the area of La Perla has long struggled with issues of crime and violence.
