Prescott Back for the Cowboys After Injury Woes
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is returning to lead his team once again after navigating through injuries that sidelined him for a significant part of the 2024 season. There’s a sense that this might mark the beginning of a crucial period for the Cowboys—potential Super Bowl contenders over the next several years.
During the team’s first preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Prescott was seen on the sidelines. He took a moment to chat with Rams owner Stan Kroenke, where he confidently proclaimed, “We’ll meet y’all at the NFC Championship.” It’s certainly bold, but you can feel the determination behind those words.
For the Cowboys, reaching the Super Bowl and claiming the championship title is the ongoing mission every year. Unfortunately, a series of misfortunes has hampered their efforts for nearly three decades now.
Last season, injuries plagued Prescott, but they were just part of a broader array of challenges for Dallas in 2024. Between 2021 and 2023, they managed to secure a 12-5 record and clinch the NFC East Division title in two out of those three years. Yet, despite the solid performances, the furthest they’ve advanced is the divisional round—a hindrance that has weighed heavily since their last championship win back in 1995.
To add to their struggles, the Cowboys have not yet locked in a spot for the NFC Championship, despite showing promise in their play over the last 29 years.
The Rams, on the other hand, had their moment of glory with Matthew Stafford at the helm in 2021, where they secured the Super Bowl title. They’ve made playoffs in two of the last three seasons, but the NFC Championship still remains just out of reach for them as well.
Now, there are whispers of another issue affecting Dallas. Linebacker Micah Parsons has been absent this season due to ongoing contract negotiations, even hinting at a desire for a trade instead of participating in training camp. It’s a situation that leaves fans—and perhaps the team itself—wondering about their defensive strategy moving forward.
As for whether Parsons and the Cowboys can strike a deal? That remains unclear. His presence is crucial if they want to regain their spot as a top ten NFL defense.
