Tyler Schaff’s wife expressed her pride in her husband, the Saints’ rookie quarterback, after he outperformed veteran Spencer Laller in a preseason opener against the Chargers on Sunday.
On Instagram Stories, Jordan Schaff shared a video of her husband’s 54-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mason Tipton, which came as New Orleans was down 17-3 in the third quarter.
“Just my husband’s first NFL TD,” the 25-year-old Jordan captioned, punctuating her excitement with tearful emojis and the Saints’ logo.
The touchdown followed a brief setback as Schaff faced Chargers cornerback Eric Rodgers, who returned an interception for a 43-yard touchdown.
Schaff started strong, leading his team to the first score of the game and going five for five to set up a 31-yard field goal by Blake Grupe before halftime.
He completed 15 of 22 passes, racked up 165 yards, but did throw a pick-six, contributing to a 27-13 loss for the Saints.
Former starter Rattler, drafted fifth in 2024, struggled with an 0-6 record last season. He managed just seven completions on eleven attempts for 53 yards, facing pressure with three sacks.
Schaff was eventually replaced by Jake Haener, who passed five of eight for 41 yards during New Orleans’ final possessions.
The Saints selected the 25-year-old Schaff from Louisville as their 40th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The couple, along with their charming puppy Murphy, gained viral attention following his selection in the second round.
Additionally, Shaugh and Jordan celebrated their first wedding anniversary this past April.
On Sunday, Schaff showcased some potential, particularly with his downfield passes and strong arm.
The Saints are set to face off against the Jaguars on August 17 and will wrap up their preseason against the Broncos on August 23.
The regular season kicks off for New Orleans at home against the Cardinals on September 7.
