LeBron James isn’t the first sports icon to take up golf.
The Lakers star shared his newfound obsession with golf on social media, admitting it’s taken a toll on many before him. “Addict. Sorry. That’s right. That’s it. Yes, rain and everything,” he wrote on Instagram despite the cloudy weather.
Recently, he was spotted in St. Tropez with his wife, Savannah, enduring the rain as he geared up for a round.
This offseason hasn’t been without its drama for the Lakers and James, particularly as the team has made movements toward new star Luka Doncic.
When James picked up his player options for the 2025-26 season, his agent, Rich Paul, hinted at possible trade aspirations, indicating James’ strong desire for a championship run next year.
There have been mixed messages about whether Doncic was informed regarding Jeanie Buss’s recent $10 billion deal to sell the Lakers, including how James came to hear about it.
Paul mentioned that other teams have inquired about James’ trade status, but for now, the 21-time All-Star remains with the Lakers, alongside his son Bronny, who is starting his second year with the team.
As a four-time NBA champion, James might just need to hit the golf course with a few other basketball greats.
He has previously dabbled in golf, and friends like Stephen Curry have teased him about his swing, joking about his Olympic teammate’s baseball-style follow-through. “Incredible impersonation of my man Bron’s follow-through on the golf swing,” Curry quipped. “But we all want to welcome LeBron into the world of golf.”
While practice might be needed, there’s potential for LeBron to improve after his NBA days are over, maybe even challenging Michael Jordan himself.
Jordan is quite the golfer, often playing before games, and he certainly has the edge. Many current and former NBA players, like Charles Barkley and Chris Paul, have turned to golf as a competitive escape.
