Kimmel Confirms He Has Italian Citizenship Amid Political Discussions

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel recently shared that he has obtained Italian citizenship, during a conversation about individuals leaving the U.S. to escape the presidency of Donald Trump.

This revelation came while Kimmel was a guest on the podcast of fellow comedian Sarah Silverman. They delved into the current political climate and its impact.

“A lot of people I know are thinking about where to get citizenship,” Silverman remarked.

Kimmel responded, “I’ve actually got Italian citizenship.”

Silverman expressed her surprise, saying, “Is that so? That’s amazing.”

Kimmel continued by commenting on the political situation, saying, “As bad as you thought it would be—it’s worse. Unbelievable.” He added jokingly, “I think it’s even worse than he wants.”

Interestingly, shortly after Kimmel’s announcement, the White House didn’t provide an immediate comment when approached.

For years, Kimmel has been vocal in his criticism of Trump and actively supported Democratic candidates during elections, particularly the recent 2024 race.

He initially mentioned his new citizenship at a gathering at the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles in June, noting, “Thanks to my beloved grandmother Edith, my family is from Candida, Averino.” This event was part of the 79th Italian Republic Day celebration.

In a similar vein, several other comedians, including Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres, indicated they were relocating permanently after the results of the 2024 election.

In a notable warning last week, Trump suggested that Kimmel might be “next” on a cancelation list following Kimmel’s announcement that his show will conclude in May 2026.
