Barry Moore Launches Campaign for Alabama Senate Seat

Alabama Republican Representative Barry Moore has kicked off his campaign for the soon-to-be-vacant state Senate seat, previously held by Senator Tommy Tuberville.

In a video announcement released on Tuesday, Moore (R-Ala.) noted that he was the first elected official in the U.S. to endorse Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy back in 2015.

“I didn’t wait to see how the wind was blowing,” he emphasized, adding that he has consistently supported Trump throughout all legislative phases.

Senator Tuberville (R-Ala.), a former Auburn University football coach, has announced he will leave the Senate on January 3, 2027, in pursuit of the gubernatorial role in Alabama. Tuberville, who began his Senate term on January 3, 2021, confirmed his candidacy for governor in 2026 instead of seeking reelection.

Moore will face other notable Republicans in the 2026 Senate race, including Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.

His legislative actions have earned him commendations from conservative groups. Moore boasts a lifetime conservative rating of 95% from the Conservative Political Action Council (CPAC), climbing to 96% in 2024, suggesting strong alignment with Republican principles. His stated priorities focus on fiscal responsibility, agricultural support, and veterans, and he engages with the public through his column titled “Moore You Know.” In it, he tackles issues like tax policies and government expenditure, which his supporters view as a commitment to transparency and open dialogue.

Tuberville’s decision to vacate his Senate seat opens the door for former representative Jerry Carl (R-Ala.) to make a potential political resurgence. Last year, Moore and Carl had a contentious race due to district changes. Carl hinted at a significant political reveal on social media before an announcement planned for August 18th.

“This campaign is not about climbing a ladder or merely being flashy,” Moore stated in his announcement video. “I’m not here to pretend to embody what others think is conservative. I stand for more than just being a Republican.”

Moore’s biography on social media describes him as the U.S. representative for #AL01 and includes a biblical message.
