Charles Robinson, a wrestling umpire for several years, has had concerns about being attacked by a bat, but it turns out he was bitten by one instead.
The well-known former WCW and current WWE referee shared that he was hospitalized after a bat bit him on Wednesday morning.
“What a way to start the day! I woke up at 2 AM to a bat,” Robinson noted on Instagram, posting a photo of himself in a hospital bed and a video of his treatment. “Yes! ER visit and six shots in four hours. #AnimalAttacks #Hospital.”
At 61, Robinson seemed to be handling the situation with a sense of humor.
His hospital snapshots showed him making a funny face with his tongue out, alongside a picture of the bat labeled in all caps: “Bad Bat!!!”
“Here’s the little troublemaker! Such a cutie! #bat #animal,” he added in the caption.
This incident follows a recent match where he suffered a cracked rib while officiating a “Saturday Night Main Event” between Goldberg and then-champion Gunther.
In the storyline, Goldberg accidentally speared Robinson during the match, leading him to share an X-ray of his injury.
Robinson expressed his gratitude to Goldberg in a post, saying, “Thank you @goldberg95! Don’t worry… I’m all good and can handle it!” He also mentioned he would return to WWE’s #Smackdown in San Antonio the following week.
He gained fame in WCW during the late 90s and into the early 2000s, especially noted for his role as a referee for Ric Flair, often referred to as Lil Naitch. Eventually, he transitioned to WWE (then WWF) after it acquired WCW, and he currently works with the “SmackDown” brand.
Wrestling content creator Chris Van Vliet mentioned earlier this year that Robinson was the first WWE referee in 40 years to oversee a match.
