Maxine Waters Claims Trump is Driving the U.S. Towards 'Civil War' with His Actions on Illegal Immigration

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) seems to think that President Donald Trump is steering the country towards a “civil war” in order to fulfill his commitments.

During a visit to the Metropolitan Detention Center and the Department of Homeland Security Field Office in Los Angeles, California, on Monday, Waters shared her thoughts. She was accompanied by Brad Sherman, Judy Chew, and Jimmy Gomez, and they toured the facility together.

Waters expressed concern that Trump is trying to incite civil unrest as a means to enforce stricter immigration policies. This seems to align with a fundamental campaign promise that resonated with many voters in the recent 2024 presidential election.

“Words are just talk. It’s the actions that matter,” she stated. “You need to be cautious and ask questions, especially because this president might lead us toward what he seems to suggest could be a Civil War.”

This isn’t the first instance of Waters using such strong language. Back in March, she voiced her apprehensions, saying she feared Trump was on the verge of sparking civil unrest.

“He has alluded to it multiple times, suggesting that if he doesn’t get re-elected, there could be ramifications,” Waters mentioned.

Her remarks come as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently reported significant declines in border crossings in July, attributed in part to Trump’s stringent immigration measures. Notably, there were 24,628 encounters recorded, a steep drop from 12,365 in July 2024, marking it as “the lowest total in CBP history for the same month.”

In July 2024, the number of Border Patrol concerns decreased to 6,177 under former President Joe Biden, down from 59,655 previously reported.

According to further details from Breitbart News:

The Southwest border alone saw 4,601 incidents that month, showing a 24% reduction. This also signifies a notable drop from the 56,400 incidents under Biden in July 2024.

Additionally, CBP recorded a historically low level of anxiety on July 20th, with only 116 incidents.

The situation is expected to require collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other resources to manage the housing and deportation of undocumented individuals.

It remains uncertain how improved border safety could lead to civil unrest.
