Trump Claims 275,000 Illegal Immigrants Removed from Social Security
In Washington, President Trump announced on Thursday that approximately 275,000 illegal immigrants have been removed from the Social Security system during his administration.
“To protect our interests, we’ve successfully driven out nearly 275,000 illegal aliens from the Social Security system,” Trump stated in the Oval Office, noting that Social Security Commissioner Frank Vignano was present.
Vignano, who previously served as COO of JP Morgan Chase and the financial technology firm Fiserv, did not address the president’s remarks.
The Social Security Administration acknowledged in a statement, without elaborating, that it “no longer holds legal status for the Social Security records of about 275,000 individuals.”
“These are people who, many of whom have already left the country, yet we were still sending out checks,” Trump commented on Thursday.
The president further criticized President Biden, saying, “Biden hasn’t driven anyone away. Everyone is still here. We’re undertaking historic deportations to tackle the social security fraud that has reached unprecedented levels.”
It remains unclear whether all 275,000 individuals were actually receiving Social Security benefits or if they obtained funds through fraudulent means, such as using stolen Social Security numbers for employment.
Additionally, Trump mentioned several adjustments to the social safety net, including a $6,000 tax credit for seniors included in what he described as the “one big beautiful bill.”
The White House indicated that the new tax deduction would allow 88% of seniors to avoid taxation on their benefits.
On the same day, Trump claimed that wait times at Social Security Field Offices have dropped by 30% compared to last year, with call wait times down by 73%, and wait times for individuals with disabilities reduced by 26%.
