Presidential Declaration on Social Security Act Anniversary
On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt enacted the Social Security Act, marking a significant milestone for hardworking Americans dedicated to supporting our seniors and enhancing our nation. As we approach the 90th anniversary of this landmark program, I continue to advocate for Social Security. It’s essential to recognize the efforts of those who contribute to our prosperity and to urge them to care for our workers, families, and seniors.
The core of Social Security remains rooted in fundamental promises. Those who have devoted their lives to building our nation deserve the support and security they need. My administration has worked diligently to ensure that Social Security is more robust and resilient than ever. Following the passage of a major legislative bill last month, most seniors receiving Social Security will now pay no taxes on their benefits.
To enhance Social Security further, my administration is addressing fraud, waste, and abuse that have plagued our federal programs. These actions are saving U.S. taxpayers billions annually and ensuring that future generations receive the benefits they’ve contributed to. Additionally, I am committed to making the Social Security Agency more efficient and responsive than before, alongside implementing strong border security policies to protect Medicare and Social Security for the citizens who have funded them.
On this notable 90th anniversary, we acknowledge the numerous contributions of American seniors who have invested their time, skills, and resources into the future of our country. This milestone prompts us to reinforce retirement systems, safeguard programs like Social Security and Medicare from misconduct, and secure the income stability that all future generations have earned and require.
Thus, as President of the United States, I declare that August 14, 2025, will be recognized as the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act, in accordance with the powers vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States.
As a testament to this declaration, I affix my hand here.
August 14th, in the 25th year of our Lord, marking 255 days of independence for the United States.
Donald J. Trump
