Idaho prison minimizes harassment allegations involving Bryan Kohberger

The facility in Idaho housing Bryan Kohberger has dismissed his claims that fellow inmates are harassing him. Kohberger received four life sentences for the murders of four University of Idaho students and has been moved to a high-security prison, where he is currently in solitary confinement.

The Idaho Department of Corrections stated that while inmates typically interact, Kohberger is kept alone and the staff ensures the safety of all incarcerated individuals.

Chris McDonough, a retired detective from the Cold Case Foundation, mentioned that Kohberger has lodged several complaints about his inability to sleep due to disturbances. He has reportedly been screaming at the vent leading to his cell throughout the day.

“It’s really affecting him,” McDonough shared. “The prisoners take turns screaming at him through the vents. It’s relentless.” He noted that Kohberger has been visibly upset, frequently complaining to the guards about not being able to sleep.

Kohberger is isolated from the general population in a restricted unit within the prison. His daily routine only allows him one hour outside for recreation and a shower every other day.

The notoriety of his case seems to provoke other inmates, who may want to target him for recognition. While McDonough claimed that there wasn’t a physical threat to Kohberger while he is in solitary, he indicated that officials might eventually consider placing him back in the general population as time goes on.

During his previous incarceration, Kohberger’s fellow inmates reportedly engaged in various unusual behaviors, including long phone calls with family and excessive handwashing.

Interestingly, just weeks before his trial, Kohberger entered a plea deal, avoiding the death penalty. This decision angered several families of the victims and left unanswered questions about his motives for the murders he committed on November 13, 2022, against Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin.
