Long Island mother accused of hitting a 14-year-old girl in the head during a high school conflict

A Long Island mother became the center of attention after an altercation at Brentwood High School. Reports suggest she intervened in a conflict involving her 15-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old classmate, ultimately leading to a violent episode where she struck the boy with a large water bottle, leaving him injured.

Toni Monroe, 35, was taken into custody around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Allegations state that her daughter was upset with the boy, prompting a verbal exchange that escalated. According to Suffolk County Police, Monroe was at the school to address bullying issues regarding her daughter.

During the encounter, Monroe reportedly attacked the teen boy, causing a severe head injury that required 17 stitches, an incident described as quite shocking.

“Her mom came and started hitting me with a cup,” stated the victim, Madison Evans, in an interview. “I saw blood dripping down and held my head, noticing the blood in my hand.”

Witnesses recounted how Monroe picked up the water container and repeatedly struck the boy on the head. The situation escalated until police arrived and apprehended her.

Brentwood Principal Wanda Ortiz Rivera later addressed the incident in a letter to parents, emphasizing that student safety is a primary concern and such behavior is intolerable.

In court, Monroe’s attorney claimed that her daughter was the real victim of bullying, which was why she was at the school that day.

“As a mom, you should be trying to understand the situation and not resort to violence by attacking another child,” commented Tyrene Smith, a cousin of the injured student.

Evans’ guardian, Shamik Forney, expressed concern about the severity of the attack, suggesting it could have had even graver consequences.

Monroe was released without bail but must wear a monitoring device, and a protective order was put in place to keep her away from the injured teen.
