Halle Berry responds to her ex-husband's remarks about 'cooking, cleaning, and mothering'

Halle Berry recently reacted to remarks made by her ex-husband, David Justice, regarding their past marriage.

The Oscar-winning actress seemed to poke fun at the retired MLB player in an Instagram post on Thursday.

She shared a snapshot with the caption, “Fau…! Cooking, cleaning, mother.” Justice, coincidentally, celebrated his 59th birthday on the same day.

Additional images showed Berry enjoying some sun on an outdoor bed, playfully holding a wine glass with her toes.

One particular photo featured her with a card that read “Mama.”

Berry also has children from previous relationships, including her daughter Nala, 17, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubrey, and her son Maceo with ex-husband Olivier Martinez.

Her post seemed to hint at Justice’s latest comments, which he made during an August 7 appearance on a podcast hosted by Matt Barnes. There, he discussed their four-year marriage, which ended in divorce in 1997.

Justice expressed that he left Berry, claiming he struggled to see her as a mother. He remarked, “She doesn’t cook, she’s beautiful, she really doesn’t look like a mother.”

Reflecting on their relationship, Justice shared, “I didn’t have any negative attention until I left in 1996. She asked to get to know me for a few months before marrying, and… well, I felt a bit uncertain about it.”

He added that his upbringing shaped his expectations of a spouse: “As a Midwest man, I thought my wife should cook and clean. When that wasn’t the case, problems arose.”

In a more pointed critique, he mentioned that Berry “had no money” at the time and that he was managing all their finances, feeling the pressure of supporting them both.

Berry has been dating musician Van Hunt since 2020. During a joint interview, he humorously implied he had proposed, but the couple is not rushing to tie the knot.

Berry clarified, “We don’t believe marriage is necessary to validate our love.” Having been married three times, and Hunt once, they both feel content without the need for an official union, even if she thinks about marriage from time to time.

She added that while she believes in commitment, their relationship is about love, not obligation.
