Hillary Clinton Suggests Trump Could Win Nobel Peace Prize

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mentioned on Friday that President Donald Trump might deserve the Nobel Peace Prize if he successfully facilitates an end to Russia’s war with Ukraine. This statement came during her appearance on the “Raging Moderates” podcast.

Clinton remarked that she would nominate Trump for the prize, provided that Russian President Vladimir Putin not only halts the conflict but also returns all territory acquired during the war.

“You know, look, if President Trump is that architect, I’ll nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize,” she stated, emphasizing the potential for significant diplomatic progress.

Potential for Historic Meeting

Trump is scheduled to meet Putin on Friday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, marking Putin’s first visit to the U.S. in a decade. The president expressed hopes that this meeting could pave the way for peace in the region, though he noted that the immediate goal is to secure a follow-up meeting with Putin. He indicated that the outcome of the meeting would be crucial.

He said, “If it’s a bad meeting, it’s going to end very quickly. And if it’s a good meeting, we’re going to get peace in the pretty near future.”

Concerns About Negotiations

Clinton pointed out that several critical conditions must be met if Trump wants to be recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize. She emphasized the need for a ceasefire and made it clear that territory exchanges should not be on the table. “For a while, Putin should actually withdraw from the territory he seized to demonstrate his sincere efforts,” she added, highlighting various concerns regarding European security.

She expressed her hope that Trump could negotiate terms that wouldn’t lead to a capitulation to Putin, which she believes would set a dangerous precedent for U.S. security. “I think it will reward Putin’s aggression. He won’t stop,” Clinton cautioned.

Clinton’s Aspirations for Trump

Clinton shared that she, somewhat surprisingly, desires Trump to succeed in these upcoming discussions. She mentioned that if winning the Nobel Peace Prize motivates him to negotiate effectively, it would be a worthy aim. “Any combination of reasons including the elusive Nobel Peace Prize may be able to withstand Putin, frankly for the safety and profits of Ukraine and its democracy,” she said, referencing the stakes involved.

The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the summit and Clinton’s remarks.
