Doreen St. Félix, a writer for the New Yorker, deleted her X account recently after numerous racist tweets came to light.
St. Félix has been with the New Yorker since 2017 and has not addressed her overtly racist views. These views not only demean entire races based on skin color but also suggest a disturbing sense of superiority linked to her own ethnicity.
It’s striking, really, that just a year after expressing such sentiments, she remained employed by the New Yorker. She was even recognized on the Forbes “30 under 30” list during this time.
Here are some of her most notable remarks:
April 7, 2015: “TBH Whiteness is filled with a lot of hatred for me. I can’t really be upset about it anymore.”
December 24, 2014: “I hate white men. You’re all the worst. Nurse your terrible Oedipal complex and leave the Earth to Browns and women.”
June 4, 2015: “Never say that white people, who literally started the plague because they couldn’t practice hygiene, should be teaching Black people about cleanliness.”
January 13, 2015: “Of course, white people don’t bathe. It’s in their blood. Their poor hygiene literally started diseases like the bubonic plague.”
March 10, 2015: “If I had a white guy and a child and I hadn’t returned to my phenotype, I would be heartbroken. I want my parents to look like me.”

Recently, I highlighted some of these troubling views in a piece about St. Félix’s commentary on Sidney Sweeney’s advertising campaign for American Eagle. She described the campaign as “Americana’s presentation as a zombie slop of Mustangs, denim, and good genes,” which feels a bit dismissive.
It’s all very revealing. Although her tweets seem to have dwindled since her career took off a decade ago, it’s hard not to wonder if she truly holds different beliefs or if she just wants to avoid backlash.
Instead of addressing the issue, she seemingly opted to disappear without explanation once she was caught…
The Democrats certainly seem to handle such situations better.
