Republicans Can Put an End to Racist Redistricting for Good, and South Carolinians Are Paying Attention

Voices from South Carolina: A Call for Redistricting Action

As South Carolina’s lieutenant governor, I find myself traveling the state every week, and there’s a repeated message from my constituents. It seems, quite clearly, that Republicans want their leaders to match the urgency and determination exhibited by President Donald Trump since the very beginning.

People are growing weary of seeing Democrats manipulate the legal system and lean on identity politics to protect their positions while stifling conservative voices. South Carolinians desire a congressional map that genuinely represents the state’s values and political realities, instead of the behind-the-scenes games aimed at maintaining Democratic control.

Recent rulings from the Supreme Court underscore that race shouldn’t be a primary factor in redistricting. As President Trump rightly suggests, it’s time for Republican-led states to step up, taking a proactive stance to draw constitutional maps that align with the voters’ will, rather than yielding to leftist demands.

There’s no reason for South Carolina to delay. With the state Senate’s inaction regarding redistricting, we need to act swiftly, getting Congress back to work by redrawing maps and utilizing every tool available to boost conservative representation throughout the state.

The current 6-1 Republican advantage highlights the fact that South Carolina is fundamentally conservative. A clean, new map could reinforce this. We can’t keep allowing a safe Democratic seat in the 6th District that has been deliberately insulated from competition through racial gerrymandering, which undermines the conservative voices in neighboring communities.

It’s essential to clarify: Democrats clinging to this seat are being dishonest when they assert that a fair map would lead to a Republican majority of less than 7-0. It’s as straightforward as that. It’s time to put an end to this manipulation of our state’s political reality and create a map that reflects the true values of South Carolina voters.

This issue reaches far beyond South Carolina. With Congress’s margins so tight, every single seat matters.

If Republicans genuinely aim to assist President Trump in securing our borders, unleashing American energy, cutting taxes, restoring common sense, and prioritizing America, a stronger conservative majority in Washington is crucial. Republican-led states cannot afford to squander a winning position while Democrats vigorously defend their political interests.

Governor McMaster and I have supported President Trump and his policies from the start. I’ve collaborated closely with legislative leaders in Columbia to emphasize that the era of delays and excuses must come to an end. South Carolinians expect bold leadership, decisive actions, and tangible results.

States like Florida and Texas are showcasing strong Republican leadership by defending fair representation and actively pushing back against leftist tactics. South Carolina should strive for the same confidence and determination.

Citizens of South Carolina are raising their voices, and it’s time for the South Carolina Legislature to listen. The route is clear. Voters have expressed their will. The Legislature needs to fulfill its responsibilities.
