Alec Baldwin Critiques Trump’s Police Takeover
Actor Alec Baldwin took to TikTok recently to express his concerns regarding President Donald Trump’s “incomprehensible” move to take control of the Washington, D.C. police. He warned that this action could set a troubling precedent for other cities and even professional sports leagues.
Baldwin, known for his anti-Trump stance, questioned the necessity of federal intervention in D.C., implying that the president is avoiding addressing significant issues facing the nation. “What’s next? Will Trump take over the New York City Police Department? What about Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, or Boston?” he posed in his video. He also wondered if Trump had plans to federate the NFL or NBA.
The actor recently referred to the current climate in America as a “pre-war environment,” inspired by a PBS miniseries he watched.
On Monday, Trump announced the federalization of local police departments under a specific act aimed at family rules in D.C. Baldwin criticized this move, suggesting that the president should focus on more pressing issues such as tariffs and international conflicts rather than local law enforcement.
“I don’t see the need for a police takeover in D.C.,” Baldwin remarked. He expressed that there are more critical concerns—like getting a handle on the situation in Gaza—that deserve the administration’s attention.
In 2020, Baldwin had suggested that Trump might use military force to disrupt the upcoming elections, particularly after federal agents were deployed to Portland during protests that followed George Floyd’s death. Baldwin’s past comments reflect his serious concerns about the potential overreach of federal authority.
