When President Trump welcomed Russian President Putin at Elmendorf Richardson’s base, a B-2 stealth bomber flew overhead, accompanied by four F-35 jets. This was more than just a show of military might; it served as a striking symbol as the two leaders geared up for high-stakes discussions on global security.
This dramatic entrance underscored the significance of their meeting, which was the first in-person summit since Trump re-entered the White House. Elmendorf Richardson, situated near Anchorage, was selected for its strategic importance and strong security features.
Observers in Anchorage and on social media noted this moment with astonishment, labeling it an “unusual flex.” Many referenced the recent history involving B-2 bombers, particularly a notable event just two months prior when such aircraft played a pivotal role in a U.S. operation against an Iranian nuclear site.
The B-2 Spirit, developed by Northrop Grumman, stands out as one of the most sophisticated military aircraft ever made. Its distinctive flying wing design and radar-absorbent materials make it nearly invisible to enemy radar systems.
Some users on social media expressed their amazement, with comments like, “It’s absolutely unbelievable,” and another quipped that Putin now knows how to greet Trump should certain lines be crossed.
After a brief ceremony on the tarmac, the two leaders traveled in heavily armored presidential limousines past a row of American fighter jets. This presence felt like a stark reminder of the serious issues they were there to discuss.
Shortly afterward, they arrived at a secure meeting space at the base around 3:30 pm ET. Trump indicated his intent to involve Ukrainian President Zelensky in future summit discussions. However, he also emphasized that if Putin doesn’t agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine, it could lead to some unhappy responses from Fox News’ Brett Beyer.
