Chris Partridge’s Name Cleared Amid NCAA Scandal

Former Michigan assistant coach Chris Partridge, who was dismissed during an investigation into the university’s NCAA compliance, is now celebrating the news that his name has been “cleared.”

Currently, Partridge is the outside linebackers coach for the Seattle Seahawks. He addressed his firing in light of recent developments regarding Michigan State.

In his dismissal letter, it was clarified that Partridge lost his job two years ago.

A recent NCAA report indicated that Partridge would not face repercussions related to the scandal. It stated, “While there are lingering questions about Partridge’s awareness of the unacceptable scouting practices, there isn’t enough evidence to suggest he tried to mislead student-athletes or deceive administrative staff.”

In a brief yet firm statement, Partridge expressed his gratitude for the in-depth investigation conducted by the NCAA.

Jim Harbaugh, who was head coach during the relevant period, faces a significant 10-year show-cause penalty starting August 7, 2028. Current Michigan coach Sheron Moore received an additional one-game suspension for the 2026 season opener, along with other sanctions.

Reports suggest fines imposed on Michigan are likely to support the NCAA Student Support Fund, which aims to assist college athletes facing unexpected financial needs beyond what traditional scholarships cover.

This marks Partridge’s second year as part of the Seahawks’ coaching staff after his earlier role as Michigan’s linebackers coach. Prior to that, he held various positions within Michigan’s program from 2015 to 2019, including director of player personnel and special teams coordinator. He was also the co-defensive coordinator at Ole Miss from 2020 to 2022.
