Sage Steele Claims Conservative Sports Writers Are Holding Back Their Opinions

Sage Steele, a former commentator for ESPN, shared that conservative individuals, both men and women, are often hesitant to express their opinions in sports journalism during an exclusive interview on the newly launched Katie Miller Podcast.

Launched last week by Miller, who is married to White House adviser Stephen Miller, the podcast features Steele in its first episode.

Miller referenced the experiences of Steele with her friend Samantha Ponder at ESPN, asking about these dynamics in a clip shared with Breitbart News.

In response, Steele, who departed from ESPN in 2023, mentioned that he can now express his First Amendment rights more freely.

“You’re calling it sports journalism,” noted Miller.

Steele replied, “Yeah, but I feel like it’s better to just remain quiet sometimes.”

Miller questioned if the expectations differ for men and women, to which Steele acknowledged that they do but also remarked on how many conservative men choose to remain silent.

“A lot of people I worked with,” she remarked.

This preview follows the recent announcement of Miller’s podcast.

“You may be wondering why I’m hosting a podcast; it seems like everyone is doing it these days. Over the years, many people I admire have hosted their own shows, whether on TV, radio, or podcasting platforms,” she said.

“I felt there’s been a lack of space for conservative women to connect online—a place to discuss careers, health, fitness, and to share gossip about current events from our viewpoint.”
