Mike Vrabel Faces Media Questions About Stefon Diggs
Mike Vrabel, a former linebacker for the New England Patriots who enjoyed a successful eight-season stint and three Super Bowl wins, is currently trying to revive a franchise he once played for. Interestingly, Vrabel’s focus as the team’s new head coach has shifted to address reports regarding the availability of star wide receiver Stefon Diggs for their season opener.
In a recent media interaction, he challenged a reporter about Diggs’ situation, expressing skepticism. “Did you really believe it, Phil?” Vrabel said, clearly taken aback. “You’re a smart guy. I don’t know where you went to school, but it wasn’t Ohio. Or are you trying to feed me something?”
Diggs, who played in only eight games against the Houston Texans last season due to an ACL injury, recently received medical clearance to participate in practice. However, during the preseason, he notably did not suit up for a game against the Minnesota Vikings, attributing his absence to “coach’s decisions.”
Vrabel has indicated that the team is taking a careful approach in the early days, stating, “I don’t know the context in which he said it. You have to help me. He was here almost every day. I’m excited to see where he is.”
The situation with Diggs has been somewhat uncertain; he expressed mixed feelings when asked about his prospects for the upcoming season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. “I mean, I always push the needle,” Diggs commented. “I’m always doing less, and I know about week one but… I don’t know how I feel about it. The coach isn’t very excited, and I’m not either. I try to take it every day, so I don’t really know where I’m going.”
Diggs joined the Patriots in March with a three-year contract after consistently racking up over 1,000 receiving yards for six seasons. His past season ended abruptly due to injuries, leaving fans contemplating what to expect as the new season unfolds.
