Firefighters intervene in sexual assault near Nashville church, suspect arrested.

Nashville police have charged a man with four counts of rape after an eyewitness saw him assaulting an unconscious woman outside a church on Thursday. The 39-year-old suspect, identified as Mohamed Mohamed, was taken into custody shortly after officers from the Metronashville Police Station responded to the scene. The victim was rushed to a community hospital but unfortunately died upon arrival.

According to a police statement, fire crews from Nashville were responding to a call on Norenceville Pike around 9:30 PM when they noticed the assault occurring on the sidewalk. They turned on their sirens and approached, finding Mohamed trying to pull the victim’s pants up. Firefighters detained him and called for police assistance, tending to the victim as well.

Surveillance footage revealed the victim staggering towards the church entrance, suggesting she may have been under the influence of a substance. At one point, she attempted to resist Mohamed as he assaulted her, but he overpowered her, eventually dragging her to the ground.

Following his arrest, Mohamed declined to speak with law enforcement. His bail has been set at $300,000. Meanwhile, officials are waiting for the results of a toxicology test to establish the cause of the woman’s death.

The victim, a 34-year-old woman thought to be homeless, has not been publicly named as authorities continue their efforts to locate her family.
