On Monday, former President Trump revealed his intention to issue an executive order aimed at abolishing mail-in voting and questionable voting machines in preparation for the 2026 midterm elections.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump reiterated his long-standing criticisms of mail-in voting, claiming that numerous countries had discarded similar practices due to widespread voter fraud.
“I’m initiating efforts to eliminate mail-in votes. Meanwhile, these voting machines are not just inaccurate; they are also very costly and controversial—ten times the price of reliable and sophisticated systems,” he stated.
He further mentioned that Democrats are staunchly opposed to this move because they are, in his view, being misled like never before. His aim is to enhance the integrity of the upcoming elections through this executive action.
Trump has been vocal for years about unverified allegations of voter fraud, particularly concerning mail-in ballots. He often labels the 2020 election as “rigged,” attributing large-scale mail-in voting during the pandemic to his defeat.
Data from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission indicates that around one-third of votes cast in the 2024 election were submitted via mail. A report published in June noted that while mail-in ballots didn’t hit the record level seen during the pandemic, they still constituted 30.3% of total votes in that election.
Over the past few months, Trump’s attempts to significantly reform federal election processes have encountered legal setbacks.
A judge previously halted some of Trump’s executive orders regarding Election Day but did try to block states from tallying mail-in ballots, ruling that the president lacks the authority to dictate state election rules.
In his recent post, Trump appeared cognizant of these limitations.
“Just remember, states should not overlook that the federal government is ‘delegated’ to count the votes. They must follow guidelines that serve the interests of our nation as directed by the President,” he remarked.
He vowed to combat perceived threats to election integrity, accusing Democrats of gaining unfair advantages through what he terms a discredited mail-in voting system.
“Elections cannot be deemed fair with mail-in voting, and everyone, especially Democrats, is aware of this,” he claimed. “Republicans and I will fight vigorously to restore integrity to our elections.”
“The mail-in voting fraud coupled with these disastrous machines must come to an end—immediately! Remember, without fair and honest elections and strong borders, a nation loses its identity.”
