A significant increase in arrests was observed in Washington, DC, on Saturday night, as authorities continue to address crimes tied to President Donald Trump. According to the White House, 68 individuals were taken into custody that evening.
Among the seized items were 15 illegal firearms. The charges faced by the arrested included aggravated assault, assaulting police officers, and resisting arrest. Other offenses reported included being fugitives from justice, grand theft, and possession of controlled substances.
Some individuals were also charged for fleeing from law enforcement and driving without a valid permit. Additionally, three homeless encampments were dismantled on Saturday without any arrests, and officials confirmed that the operations were conducted safely.
White House spokesman Taylor Rogers highlighted that Trump’s administration is swiftly enhancing security in the capital. “In under ten days, over 300 dangerous offenders have been removed from the streets of Washington, D.C.,” Rogers noted.
The campaign to restore order in the city aligns with Trump’s promises to improve Washington. “President Trump is dedicated to revitalizing the city and ensuring America’s capital is recognized for its greatness,” Rogers emphasized.
Attorney General Pam Bondy also commended the initiative in a tweet, expressing her firm support for the ongoing efforts to enhance safety in D.C.
From August 7th, the law enforcement actions have led to a total of 308 arrests. This figure includes 135 undocumented immigrants labeled by the White House as gang members or violent offenders.
The recent actions follow Trump’s commitment, made just a week ago, to considerably improve the safety and aesthetics of Washington, D.C., which he referred to as his “precious capital.” “We are working to make it truly wonderful again,” he stated.
