In a recent incident, several individuals were arrested after an ambush outside an ice facility in Texas on July 4. Reports indicate these suspects may have links to shadowy anti-fascist groups and transgender activists.
Some of those apprehended were thought to have attended a training session led by a former Marine, who faces terrorism charges related to a separate case near the Prairiland Detention Center, located south of Fort Worth.
Days following the ambush, various people gathered around the facility, resulting in a tense standoff. Defense attorneys have suggested that what began as a protest escalated into a violent encounter.
On July 5, law enforcement executed a raid on a home in a historically significant black neighborhood in Dallas, taking at least one person into custody.
Authorities also reported discovering a cache of weapons at the residence. This location is thought to have been inhabited by transgender individuals connected to a group focusing on issues related to transgender identity. Local residents had mixed reactions when asked about the newcomers.
A man named Song, currently in custody, faces severe charges, including attempted murder of federal agents and discharging firearms during violent crimes. It appears he had purchased several guns associated with the ambush.
Interestingly, Song’s background reveals a transformation from a politically conservative upbringing to a more leftist ideology during his college years. Initially influenced by conservative media, he eventually became disenchanted with capitalism and began connecting with online activist communities.
Training activities led by Song reportedly aimed to equip participants—some of whom identify as transgender—with skills in firearms, inspired by right-wing groups that emerged during the national unrest in 2020. Although the group’s original focus had been on social justice, their attention has shifted towards confronting immigration enforcement by ICE.
A former trainee recounted how Song seemed to offer solutions to those who were feeling scared during these volatile times. Following the arrests, an FBI special agent emphasized the agency’s commitment to thoroughly investigate the shooting and bring all participants to justice. The FBI had previously announced a reward of $25,000 for information that could assist in Song’s arrest and conviction.
