RFK Jr. invites Pete Hegseth to a lighthearted workout contest as the Trump administration emphasizes fitness over being overweight.

Health Initiative Challenge Between HHS Secretary and DOD

Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently visited the Department of Defense, where he competed with Secretary Pete Hegseth in a pull-up and push-up challenge. This event was supported by leaders from the Trump administration, who are advocating for Americans to prioritize fitness over unhealthy habits.

The two officials aimed to complete 50 pull-ups and 100 push-ups in under five minutes in front of Navy and Marine Corps personnel. This challenge was initially featured on a digital show by Fox News.

“Today, Big Pete and I are taking on 50 pull-ups and 100 push-ups, aiming to finish in less than five minutes,” Kennedy stated as he donned a casual gym outfit—jeans and a t-shirt.

This initiative is part of Kennedy’s broader goal to promote healthier eating habits across America while encouraging the military to maintain peak fitness levels for national defense.

In response to a report highlighting two-thirds of Army personnel being unfit, Hegseth posted, “This is completely unacceptable. It’s time for real fitness standards. We fit, not fat.”

While Hegseth surpassed the five-minute mark, he ultimately bested Kennedy in the challenge.

“I was around 5:25,” Hegseth mentioned in a video, noting Kennedy was close behind him.

Several Marines present at the gym also participated, with some completing the challenge in under four minutes.

Kennedy expressed that it was President Trump who motivated him to undertake this challenge, emphasizing the need for Americans to improve their health through exercise.

The duo also extended an invitation to Transport Secretary Shawn Duffy to join them in the challenge, prompting some light-hearted banter.

President Trump backed Kennedy’s health initiative, urging Americans to reduce their intake of processed foods while commending the military’s significant role in maintaining fitness under Hegseth’s guidance.

Moreover, Trump has revived the President’s Council on fitness, which aims to promote sports, fitness, and nutrition among schoolchildren, restoring an emphasis on physical education that was set aside previously.

Through an executive order, Trump has instructed the council to create a school-based program that encourages excellence in physical fitness, ultimately aiming to prepare the youth for a healthier future.
