Broadcasting Thoughts on Time During Phillies Game
During a recent Phillies game, Alec Bohm had already helped his team to a significant lead when broadcaster John Kruk took a moment to muse about the concept of time while chatting with his partner, Tom McCarthy.
Kruk, reflecting on history, humorously reminded McCarthy not to waste time during an exciting game. He posed an intriguing question: if the inventor of the clock was present today, what time would they know it to be?
“That’s a fascinating question,” McCarthy responded, suggesting perhaps early timekeepers relied on sundials.
Kruk then inquired about the accuracy of the information. McCarthy confidently replied, “I think that’s as accurate as possible,” just as they turned their attention back to the game, particularly a play involving the Mariners.
Amid the playful banter, Kruk jokingly told McCarthy, “If I ever go vegan, you should try to punch me as hard as you can.” That kind of light-hearted exchange is what makes broadcasts so entertaining.
The Phillies triumphed over the Mariners, winning 12-7, which widened their lead in the standings, putting them solidly ahead of the Mets.
The game showcased strong performances, particularly from players like Trea Turner and Bryce Harper, who collectively drove in six runs in the first two innings against Seattle’s starter, Logan Gilbert.
Kruk, who enjoyed a six-year stint with the Phillies during his ten-year career, has been involved with team broadcasts since 2017, continuing to engage fans with his unique perspectives.
The Phillies and Mariners will face off again at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday.
