Collision Causes Veterinary Clinic to Explode, Injuring Firefighters

Explosion at East Carolina Veterinary Medical Center

On Tuesday morning, a car crash that led to a gas leak caused a significant explosion at the East Carolina Veterinary Medical Center, resulting in injuries to three firefighters.

Two firefighters from Wilmington, North Carolina, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, while one firefighter suffered burns on his hand and arm. A local spokesperson stated, “The car hit the building and burst the gas line. The firefighters were conducting a thorough search to ensure no one was inside. Thankfully, there were no people in the building at the time of the explosion.”

A report noted that the Wilmington Police Department located the driver who had fled the scene and found indications of a disability, leading to the individual’s detention.

According to police spokesperson Greg Willett, “While firefighters were managing the gas leak and our officers were investigating, another officer discovered both the vehicle and the driver.” He added that the driver is currently facing potential charges.

Willett mentioned, “The officer observed evidence in the vehicle related to the driver’s disability, and the driver was taken into custody. They are still addressing those findings and working on the charges.”

This was meant to be the new location for the Veterans Center, which was set to open in September, as noted on the Center’s website.
