Oswaldo Cabrera making great progress in rehabilitation for a chance to return to the Yankees

Oswald Cabrera Remains Hopeful for a Return This Season

Oswald Cabrera is still holding out hope to make a comeback with the Yankees this season.

Although fan favorites haven’t resumed their baseball activities yet, Cabrera provided an optimistic update on his rehabilitation during a recent media interaction at the Somerset Patriots game at TD Bank Ballpark.

“I’m fine,” Cabrera stated. “We’re doing really well with rehab right now. But, you know, we need to take it a bit slower. Good progress is being made, but the cartilage is still somewhat weak. So, we have to ease up a little, keep working, and manage everything carefully. I believe things will turn out alright.”

Cabrera has been sidelined since May 12th, when he suffered a fracture to his left ankle while playing against the Mariners.

The Yankees may have missed him for the season, but Cabrera has not completely closed the door on a return.

“We’re working on it,” he told reporters. “It’s, um, not a huge window of opportunity, but we are still hopeful. We just need to keep pushing and see where it leads us.”

Cabrera had been batting .243 with a .322 on-base percentage and a .308 slugging percentage in 34 games prior to his injury.

The injury occurred while he was trying to score from third base after a flyball to right field.

Cabrera appeared to twist his ankle in a concerning manner and clearly showed signs of pain as he hit the ground.

On Tuesday, he was in Somerset and even threw the first pitch before the Patriots played against the Hartford Yard Goats.
