Trump’s Optimism on Russia-Ukraine Conflict

In a recent conversation with conservative radio host Mark Levin, former President Donald Trump expressed a hopeful outlook on resolving the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Earlier this month, he facilitated an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, bringing an end to a long-standing conflict.

Trump noted that his approach to peacebuilding involves more than just instincts; it integrates systematic processes drawn from his extensive experience in trade to unite opposing parties. “I like to do that—I love to stop the war,” he mentioned during the interview.

He recalled that tensions between Thailand and Cambodia had been quelled, saying, “I said, it’s been a long time.” However, he acknowledged that achieving resolution in the Russia-Ukraine conflict has proven to be more challenging than anticipated, referencing some false allegations of conspiracy that haunted his first term. Despite these difficulties, he remained optimistic, particularly after last week’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and a Monday discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky along with European leaders.

“We’re trying to stop it, and I think we have a good shot,” he said, expressing curiosity about the impact of a potential direct meeting between Putin and Zelensky, without his involvement.

Trump linked the conflict to the Obama administration, when the US allowed Russia to annex Crimea from Ukraine. He argued that this emboldened Putin to make more aggressive moves, a situation he claims did not occur during his presidency.

He also shared his efforts in working with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to secure the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Furthermore, he celebrated the accomplishments of American pilots in successfully targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities but warned that Israel may need to continue military action against Hamas to liberate the hostages.

“In the end, you’ll have to fight like hell,” he predicted.

Looking back, Trump stated that despite leaving office in 2021, he had a significant impact on global affairs during what he referred to as his “third term.” “I think the term… is much stronger and far more important than the second term,” he reflected, highlighting various conflicts he managed to resolve within his first seven months in office.

“Do you know the number of people I saved?” he pondered, reflecting on his diplomatic achievements. “I saved hundreds of thousands, and even millions. That feels good.”
