Dakota Johnson Discusses Her Unique Friendship with Madonna

Dakota Johnson recently opened up about her “strange” friendship with Madonna, which has lasted for almost three decades.

“I really love her,” the actress, known for her role in “Splitsville,” shared with E! News.

They first met when Johnson was quite young—she even mentioned Antonio Banderas, who starred alongside Madonna in the 1996 film “Evita.”

Despite the ups and downs in their lives, Johnson and Madonna, who is now 67, have managed to keep their connection strong over the years. “We’ve always circled each other,” Johnson noted. “She’s like this incredible energy; she’s so beautiful and wild. It’s pretty cool that she wants to talk to me.”

Although they aren’t often seen together, they were photographed at a mutual friend’s birthday party back in July.

Madonna has been candid about her past feelings for Banderas, 65, in her documentary “Madonna: Truth or Dare.” Looking back, Banderas mentioned he was unaware of Madonna’s affections for him during their time working together.

He recalled a surprising call he received from her after finishing the film “The Mambo Kings” in Los Angeles. “I thought someone was playing a prank,” Banderas explained. “I picked up my phone, and it was Madonna. I couldn’t believe it.”

During their conversation, Madonna invited him to hear about a documentary that featured him, which left him confused. “What documentary? What are you talking about?” he remembered asking.

Though Madonna offered Banderas the choice to be removed from the film, he declined. At that time, he was married to his first wife, Anna Reva, until 1996, before marrying Johnson’s mother, Melanie Griffith, later that same year.

Madonna has since expressed how bad timing and circumstances never aligned for her and Banderas. “I had a crush on him, but he was with Melanie Griffith; she was always there,” she recounted during her 2015 interview with Howard Stern.

It’s interesting to see how relationships evolve over time, isn’t it? With a mix of love, timing, and circumstances, friendships and connections can become truly unique.
