DHS Announces New Detention Facility in Nebraska
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed on Tuesday that it will establish a facility named the “Cornhusker Klink” in Nebraska.
This initiative is a collaboration between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, which includes an expansion of 280 beds in a work ethic camp located in McCook, Nebraska.
A press release from DHS indicated that this agreement was made possible by President Trump’s significant legislation. The release highlighted that the Act fully funding the 287(g) program enables the creation of 80,000 new detention beds for ICE to utilize when detaining individuals.
DHS Director Christa Noem mentioned in a statement, “We’ll be making our way to Nebraska soon: Cornhusker Klink. Today marks the announcement of our new partnership with Nebraska, increasing our detention bed capacity by 280.”
Noem continued, “Thanks to Governor Piren for his collaboration in addressing individuals who may be residing illegally in the U.S. If you are in the country unlawfully, you might end up in Cornhusker Klink, Nebraska. Consider using the CBP Home App to steer clear of arrests and deportation.”
Nebraska Governor Jim Piren expressed pride in his state’s support for the immigration enforcement initiative, stating, “We are pleased that the facilities in McCook will work alongside federal partners to address the presence of undocumented individuals in our communities.” He emphasized their commitment to supporting local patrols and the National Guard in their enforcement actions, adding that “homeland security begins at home.”
This announcement aligns with similar collaborations occurring in other states. The infamous “Wannial Catraz” in the Florida Everglades serves as another example, following the deportation facility in northern Florida.
Additionally, federal documents suggest that ICE plans to double the available detention space for migrants facing deportation by the end of the year, as reported by multiple outlets.
