MSNBC Rebrands as MS Now with New Progressive Focus

On August 18th, MSNBC made a significant announcement. The well-known network, along with its prominent figures like Rachel Maddow, Joe Scarborough, and Jen Psaki, will be breaking away from NBCUniversal and joining a new media organization named Bersant. This transition seems to signal a shift toward a more aggressive and progressive editorial direction.

You might find it interesting that the name MSNBC originally combined elements from its former partners: Microsoft and the National Broadcasting Company. Microsoft had been involved in a joint venture ages ago, but the network has kept the MSNBC name since its inception in 1996.

As they move forward, the brand will have to change its name. While the NBC portion seems to be fading, oddly enough, the MS segment will remain—but it won’t actually represent Microsoft anymore.

The new name—MS Now—stands for “My Source News Opinion World.”

When Glenn Beck heard about the rebranding, he couldn’t help but ask, “Do they have cavemen managing their advertising?”

With a chuckle, he mimicked the new name in a caveman voice, laughing alongside his producer. He quipped that “My. Source. News. Opinion. World” sounds like a slogan for a medical condition. He then wondered how one could even assess the brand’s quality, acknowledging the history of their past naming choices.

“Can we include zeros or even negative numbers? Because this is the worst rebranding I’ve ever encountered!” Glenn exclaimed.

Stu chimed in, hypothetically questioning if the network would adopt a more feminist angle, and he pronounced MS as “M.S.” He joked that they might need help defining what a woman is.

Glenn remarked that the entire brand seemed destined for failure. “It feels like a self-sabotage plan,” he said, amused. “Honestly, it sounds like something I’d create for them. I just have to poke fun at the situation.”

As for the logo and color scheme? Well, according to Stu, they’re just as unappealing. “It’s a mess, really,” he said, shaking his head.

Glenn agreed, suggesting that the overall branding effort appeared so poorly conceived it could almost pass for an intentional mock-up. “You just need ‘Gai Cheerleaders and Communism’ to complete the package,” he joked.
