Trish Stratus Announces Mother’s Passing
The WWE Hall of Fame shared some sad news on Wednesday: Trish Stratus’ mother has passed away after battling cancer.
Alice Stratziguez died last week. Trish had been by her side just two weeks prior during an event in Wales.
In an emotional Instagram post, Trish expressed her heartache. “My mom’s gone. I don’t even know how to write this,” she shared. “She passed last week and I struggled to find the words.”
The 49-year-old, who has won the WWE Women’s Championship seven times, reflected on her loss, saying her “heart feels broken in a way that I can’t explain,” adding that life will never be the same without her mother.
She continued by expressing how communication had become challenging: “It feels like I can’t properly articulate everything—every milestone, every heartbreak, every joy. She was my safe space, my go-to for all of life’s moments, and now she’s just… not here.”
Trish mentioned that her mother was always present at her side, from trips to events, cheering her on in the crowd, and being an incredible Nana to her kids. “Explaining to them that she wasn’t around anymore was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” she said.
She also spoke fondly about her mother’s spirit throughout her life, noting how her mother, even on tough days, always thought of others. “That was my mom. Selfless, brave, full of love,” Trish wrote.
Throughout her career from 2000 to 2006, Trish had one of the longest women’s championship reigns in WWE history, lasting 448 days.
Trish and her best friend Rita made history in 2004 by headlining Monday Night Raw. Although she retired, Trish has made occasional appearances in WWE, with her latest being a match against women’s champion Tiffany Stratton at the All-Women’s Evolution Premium Live event in July.
