IRS Closes Clinton Foundation Investigation
The IRS unexpectedly halted its investigation into the Clinton Foundation during the early days of the Trump administration.
Whistleblower John Moynihan, a retired financial crime analyst, along with tax expert Larry Doyle, submitted extensive materials to the IRS. They pointed out that the Clinton Foundation may have mismanaged its funding, allegedly mixing personal and charitable finances, and possibly engaging in questionable arrangements.
One IRS agent reportedly stated in a memo, “We can’t talk about CF.” This reference to the Clinton Foundation raises questions about the inquiry’s integrity.
Neither the Clinton Foundation nor the IRS commented on requests for feedback regarding the situation.
Between January and April 2019, the whistleblowers met with IRS officials multiple times, presenting a thumb drive containing thousands of pages of evidence, a financial network mapping, and a list of potential witnesses. Yet, by July 2019, all investigative activities ceased.
Moynihan suggested that “there’s no doubt someone who climbed the chain of orders blocked this pursuit,” as reported. Both whistleblowers are currently challenging their cases in U.S. tax court after their claims of tax fraud at the Clinton Foundation were dismissed.
More recently, the IRS dismissed the whistleblower’s case, stating that the petitioner’s request hadn’t been considered in the IRS investigation. It was noted that the request was not forwarded for further examination.
In 2017, the whistleblowers presented 6,000 pages of evidence concerning alleged misconduct by the Clinton Foundation to both the IRS and FBI. Their submissions included interviews with officials from the foundation, where former President Bill Clinton allegedly failed to prevent the mingling of personal business with charitable activities.
The 2017 submission indicated that the Clinton Foundation likely violated IRS regulations for tax-exempt charities, asserting that the organization should face scrutiny for its actions.
This report adds to a series of troubling revelations involving the Clintons. In August, FBI director Kash Patel disclosed the obstacles agents encountered while investigating corruption tied to Hillary Clinton and her family foundation during the 2016 presidential election.
Confidential documents have surfaced, suggesting that former President Obama sought to interfere with the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s use of private email servers and mishandling of classified information while serving as Secretary of State. These revelations were uncovered in a “burn bag” located in a recently discovered section of the FBI headquarters.
