Vance criticizes CBO report on Trump bill increasing inequality: ‘Very bad’

Vice President Vance took issue with a recent analysis from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which indicated that President Trump’s “big and beautiful bill” primarily benefits higher earners while potentially worsening the financial situation for the poorest Americans.

During a discussion at a refrigerated manufacturing facility in Peachtree City, Georgia, Vance criticized the CBO’s findings, responding to inquiries about his policies’ effects on low-income individuals.

“To begin with, the Congressional Budget Office puts out some truly terrible reports. I think this one is a perfect example,” he remarked, earning applause from the audience.

The CBO’s report, prompted by Democratic requests, revealed that the top 10% of earners could see an increase of around $13,600 annually over the next decade due to the law’s provisions.

Vance went on to advocate for legal interests, including tips and off-hours taxation.

“What matters most for those at the bottom of the income scale is that they aren’t taxed on their income sources,” the vice president explained.

“So, if you’re putting in hard work and clocking in overtime, especially in restaurants or sectors where you mainly depend on tips, you’ll receive a significant tax break.”

In his comments in Georgia, Vance asserted, “If you’re working hard, the government ought to leave you be.”

The CBO’s analysis poses a challenge to the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans, suggesting that the law does not equally benefit workers across the income spectrum. The administration has recently rebranded Trump’s efforts as “tax cuts for working families,” stepping away from the “big and beautiful bill” descriptor.
