Gavin Newsom’s New Political Persona
California’s Democratic Governor, Gavin Newsom, seems to be undergoing a constant transformation in his political image, much like a software update. Right now, he’s introducing what some are calling the “social media troll” version of himself.
Stu Burguiere, host at BlazeTV, mentioned this shift, noting a new account on X that appears to serve more as a platform for trolling rather than an actual press tool. “It’s almost as if it’s a parody of Trump’s social media antics,” he said.
Newsom has had different iterations of himself—from being viewed as a rising star within the Democratic Party to his more controversial moments, such as having slept with his best friend’s wife. Stu describes these versions humorously, hinting at the contradictions in Newsom’s character.
He has gone by various names such as “Covid Dictator,” “Party-Line Man,” and now the latest, “Social Media Troll.” This new identity has drawn comparisons to Donald Trump’s social media presence, with some on the left considering it a clever tactic, while many on the right remain indifferent to it.
“He’s always engaging online, seeking attention,” Stu explained, while also critiquing Newsom’s recent district change plan, which only garners support from 36% of California voters. “It sounds like he’s trying to make a joke out of Trump. He might not be resourceful, but at least he’s aware of the humor in it,” he added.
Stu further alluded to the unusual celebrities that Newsom chooses to highlight, suggesting that the governor is more concerned about his reputation than anything else. “Ultimately, it seems like he just wants to keep himself in the spotlight, soaking up attention at every opportunity,” he remarked.
