Cleveland Browns Quarterback Shedale Sanders to Return for Final Preseason Game
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedale Sanders is set to return for the team’s last preseason game after missing the second matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles due to an oblique injury. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has confirmed that Sanders will play against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
“He’s feeling better. If he doesn’t feel good tomorrow, or if he doesn’t think he can play on Saturday, we’ll reassess. But as of now, he’s playing,” Stefanski mentioned during a press conference.
In the previous preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, Sanders started impressively, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and throwing two touchdowns. Meanwhile, fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who had been sidelined with a hamstring issue, made his debut last week against the Eagles. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 143 yards, but the game was marred by a fumble and an interception that led to a pick-six.
Sanders’ upcoming matchup with the Rams will mark his first chance to play in the preseason this year. This might be crucial for his future playing time, especially since Joe Flacco has recently been named the starting quarterback for the season.
According to the current depth chart, Kenny Pickett is the backup to Flacco, with Gabriel third and Sanders in the fourth position.
Additionally, Pickett has not participated in preseason games since late July, due to his own hamstring injury. He won’t be available for the game on Saturday either.
The Browns’ final preseason contest will kick off at 1 PM on Saturday.
